Here is a man set out to make letters that serve reader and writer. David Sudweeks got his education in art and graphic design at Brigham Young University, finishing his studies with a short apprenticeship at MVB Fonts in California. There his sense for drawing and spacing developed as he studied one on one with type designer Mark van Bronkhorst. This led to accepting an editorship, and in time the post of Type Director at FontShop San Francisco. The work came with the opportunity to write, to swim in an ocean of fonts, and to make friends with many in the type industry. He now makes North Carolina his home, producing retail and custom fonts under his own type label, Nondescript.
